Has there ever been a time when you felt like your life was at a complete standstill? You felt stuck, isolated, and things just didn’t feel normal or okay.
Maybe you are there right now. If you are, this message is specifically for you.
There may be a point you come to in your healing journey when it feels like nothing is changing, no matter how hard you try. No matter how much you pray & beg God to move in your situation. Sometimes, it almost feels like you are being punished.
You watch other people live their lives, wishing you had things figured out the way they do. (Or the way they appear to at least). Jealousy, anger, and sadness consume you, and you feel ashamed for even feeling this way. You want to be happy for others and on some level you are, but deep down you can’t help but wonder, “Lord what about me?”
God is Not Punishing You
I want you to know that God is not punishing you. It is because of His immeasurable love for you that you are even reading this message right now. Everything I just described are feelings that consumed me for a VERY long time. I never imagined that things would change nor did I see that season of my life ever coming to an end. Things felt hopeless.
Because I had been in that season for so long, and experienced so much disappointment and heartache, I stopped hoping for better. I could not pray because I did not believe my prayers were being heard. If I did pray, the words did not carry any belief or depth. The only way I was able to fully express myself during that time was when I was crying. I felt every emotion to my core and sometimes all I could manage was the unsteady hope that God would hear my heart.
When It Feels Permanent
If everything I described above is something you are currently going through, I want you to know that it is not permanent. Some seasons in life last longer than we want them to, but where you are right now is not a waste of time.
While you are waiting for your blessings to arrive, allow God to develop your character. Waiting builds patience. In the waiting, God is nurturing your ability to endure, to persevere, to discern, to forgive… but mostly, He wants to show you that you can trust Him in all things.
When there are no temporary distractions, the quiet seasons allow us to pay attention to what is truly there beneath the surface. We come face to face with raw emotions and pain that we didn’t even know existed. The things we discover about ourselves in seasons of waiting, or solitude is not always easy to accept or manage… but you do not have to carry that weight on your own. Allow God, trusted friends and family, &/or a professional to support you.
Believe Without Seeing
One of the most important things I learned during my season of isolation and waiting is this… Even though it LOOKS like nothing is happening does not mean nothing is happening. As human beings, we want proof. Lol We want to see with our eyes that things are shifting. Many times things don’t work this way. But God is ALWAYS working. Many of the changes and blessings you are longing for are happening “behind the scenes” first before you can see them in the natural.
Rest. This season is all about you & stripping away mindsets, patterns, behaviors, and memories that no longer serve you. This quiet season is often very slow, painful, irritating + more. But it is not a waste of time.
You will grow from this. 💛
Reflection questions:
What is this quiet season of your life trying to reveal to you?
What areas of yourself, your mind, body, and spirit, need more of your attention?
What feelings come to the surface when you are alone?
