It’s been quite some time since you’ve prayed or talked to God.
It’s not that you don’t have the desire to, it’s just that you feel ashamed, guilty, and afraid of what He will say and think because you know deep down you could be making better choices.
You’ve been taught that the only way God will listen to you is if you are spotless, sin free and living life perfectly. You’ve been told, “Don’t make any mistakes because God will be disappointed in you and look at your differently.”
You try to ignore the shame you feel so that you can carry on, but the weight of it feels like it is crushing you.
You scroll social media and see posts written by well intended people talking about how sin separates us from God and how we are called to live a righteous lifestyle. This causes you to feel unworthy and like you are too far gone now.
But God has never left your side. He longs to be close to you. In the midst of your sin and rebellion — He still smiles, and gazes at you with unwavering love.
He wants to hear about your day, about the things that hurt your feelings and make you cry. The pressure you feel. He wants to hear about how overwhelmed and tired you are from being disappointed by others.
He cares about your goals, and the things that make you smile.
He cares about your fears, the ones no one else knows about.
But mostly, He cares about you. As you are.
Explain to Him why it is hard for you to leave certain habits alone. Tell Him how hard it is for you to cope with the pain you feel. Don’t hide it from Him and don’t pretend.
He wants to hear from your lips that you try to fill the void inside of you with people and habits that aren’t good for you.
No matter how far away you feel from Jesus, He has never left your side. Even in those moments you feel the most ashamed of your actions.
His love has never wavered and not for one second did He think, “She is a lost cause, I’m going to stop trying with her.”
Jesus wants us to live a life this is pure in His eyes, but He also knows that we will stumble and make mistakes. Talk to Him about it.
Communicate with Him always. Talk plainly because He can understand you in a way other people may not be able to.
He will never turn you away no matter how far you believe you’ve wandered. He doesn’t want you to be perfect, He simply wants you.
the brokenness
the addiction
the traumas
pain and frustrations with life
the anxiety and depression
the desire to be perfect…
all of it.
Talk to Him about it and don’t leave anything out. He misses you more than words can explain.
He already knows what’s going on, but He wants to hear it from you.
Your version of things. There has never been a second in your life that He stopped loving you.
It just isn’t possible.
